Camden Monument Place: Construction, Regulations..
Review Date: 8/19/2008 Reviewer: Anonymous
For some people, the giant cement horse's head crowning the Camden Complex on Monument Drive may be appealing enough for some to actually check out the possibility of leasing an apartment there. We werent exactly inspired, actually it was one of the initial turn offs as an option for renting, but we stopped in anyways, because it seemed nice enough....well at first it was when we were one of the few tenants staying in the newly contructed fortress sized building. But within a few months the place was packed with young professionals who exhibited no sign of maturation since most likely, their senior year of high school. on top of that, it seems that these same hundreds of party loving people developed an obsession for small and ferocious dogs who are dragged around the pathetically small lawn at all times of the day, contaminating every bit of greenery available (and probably the sidewalk as well). Dont expect to sleep much thursday, friday, saturday or sunday, and have the phone number for the fairfax police on hand, because there will be parties, i guarantee it. Camden has just placed a towing enforcement for non-decaled vehicles in the parking garage, although i dont know if they themselves enforce it, at least it was impossible to find a space on anything lower than the fourth floor if you happen to come home from work/school past 9:00pm. Apparently every resident here owns something like 3 cars for this parking congestion to be mathematically possible. Every so often we are welcomed back to our home with a white envelope lodged in our door and a notice from the "management" of either 1. a construction project which will either move your mailbox to the other side of the complex in no particular order in relation to the hundreds of others (expect to spend about 30 mins trying to locate it) 2. an infraction/threat of lawsuit for not paying your bill on time, despite the fact that you did (and dont try to pay online, because youll never be able to figure out how) or 3. an invitation to the annual 4th of july pool party! ( the last one was a pleasant surprise, even though we didnt end up going) ahhh...the staff, the turnover of management there is more frequent than at your local university mall restaurant, and they both probably know the same amount about the real estate business as well. expect not to be told about,...well, anything, unless you persist to be informed, and even that does not guarantee more than favourable odds of recieving information. the information that you do recieve will most likely be related to construction or notices about where to place your garbage or an infraction, the information you do NOT recieve will most likely cost you hundreds of dollars because it will involve some crucial point about rent, utilities, etc. which will cause you to unknowingly violate some obscure contract, or service fees. with the exception of the assistant manager, everyone INCLUDING the manager, takes everything you wish to report to them personally, as if they believe you are out to get them, or wish their family harm in some way. they will write your request on a cute pink post-it note which has a tendency to disappear into obscurity. is that enough to assist in the decision making process' if not, here's a bit more because of the "settling" of the building, the framework of our doorways began to sag which caused cracks in above the doorframe, they were not repaired because they were considered "cosmetic", ...well imagine having to call upon super-human strength first thing in the morning to tear your bedroom door out from the frame in which it is lodged. you can literally feel the wood bending as it is violently released from the "cosmetic" sag of the ceiling. also be on the lookout for carpet tacks which protrude from the edge of the wall, and dont be surprised if you open your front door one morning on the way to work and see a long oozing trail of liquid garbage which someone has spilled on your walkway on their way to the trash disposal room. (that is what happened to us on our last day there, kind of a Camden style "farewell" I imagine) in conclusion-dont live there, but im pretty sure i didnt have to even mention it |
