Apartment Review for Carmel Vienna Metro - Fairfax, VA

We have lived at Carmel when they first started renting the rooms. Yes, we got to pick the granite counter top color but wooopty do, the cons definitely outway the pros. Paint is thin, easy to scuff unless you paint it yourself Appliances are not good. (three people we know here have had their freezer ice cube maker break) Fire Alarms - always going off. If you're a bacon/meat eater then you don't want to live here. Walls - They tell you that its very highly insulated but you can hear everything. Doors - the main doors always slam unless you hold it so it won't. Luckily you'll have a nice neighbor who will hold the door and close it. All of our neighbors slam the doors. Smoking - Our neighbor smokes and it makes the hallways smell like a brewery. FOBS/Security - At the beginning it was nice to have the security but then it became a nuisance. You have to use a fob to go inside the elevator. It would make sense but then they have stairways that anyone can use to get on every floor. Whats the point? Club Room - They are always out of coffee and things that are supposed to be free. Business Center - There are always internet issues. Every time I have been down there (3 times since we lived here), the internet didn't work. So i'm assuming its like that all the time. Movie Room - This was an awesome thing BUT you can't have it loud enough to hear the actors talking because the concierge will come in and tell you to turn it down. I pity the person who lives above that theatre. Hence...the thin walls. Concierge - Always has a sign on the door when they will be back but then its always like an hour later and they should already be there. Basically, don't wait too long for them to come back because they are always in the club room watching tv. True story. Community Manager/ Office Staff- Acts like they will help you with something relating to the apartment but then they just drag their feet with no follow up. Leasing Associate: AWESOME. Great experience. Even sent a follow up thank you. Cleaning Ladies: AWESOME. This was by far the best part. I see these ladies every day and they are the best thing. The office people could use some training from them :) Maintenance Manager - AWESOME! He was always there within a couple days to help fix our problems. FYI. if your blinds break (this happened within the 1st month) they originally put aluminum blinds in that apparently are always falling. I was told this by one of the maintenance people. They actually saw that our bedroom blinds were made of aluminum and they said that they would probably be back next week. (jokingly). So to me it sounded like he has to maintain a lot of the appliances and things because they are poorly made. At least thats what I got out of it all :) Lets see.. I think that all sums it up. Hopefully this review will help you to think twice about moving here. It sounds so great but once you are in, its like a money pit.
