Apartment Review for Elms At Oakton - Fairfax, VA

I've lived here almost six years. It is not the ideal situation, but I think this has more to do with the DC metro area, than anything else. Too many people, and nobody builds apts anymore -- it all condos and McMansions. When I find anything better for about the same price, I'll move! The Good -- Floor-plans and space adequate, nice enough neighborhood. I feel safe: I've left my keys in the lock several times by accident, and they were still there hours later! They respond well to maintence requests. The Bad -- one reason I moved here was there was a woodlot out my window, now the trees are gone in favor of McMansions (that was 5 years ago). I wish I had a full-size W/D. I wish the heat/AC could handle extreme weather a little better. EVERY spring the AC won't work as I know it can, and I have to ask them to fix it, and they do (but I have to do this every year!). Last summer I got invaded by ants, they came in under door, through windows, crawling in my kitchen, on my counters, on my stove. They made their nests in my plants which I had to throw away. I went to war with ant-killer and only this srping did I finally kill them all (they were in the walls, I think). It was partly my fault (infrequent cleaning), yet partly due to cracks around windows that let them in. Another problem: the foundation must be shifting, the whole front of the apartment is cracked (drywall). They had to rebuild my balcony (never said why). My bathroom floor is discolored, seals with tub cracked, the whole mess needs fixing.
