Apartment Review
Rat Stew Anyone?
Review Date: 4/3/2009

Please do not be fooled. When we first moved here we got the usual specials of one month free, whatever. But I must honest and say, this place can become hell on earth and I am not exaggerating. There are lot of things that concerned us. The maintenance is ok. Rick helps a lot and he is also very frustrated with the complaints and told us we should be very aggressive when talking to the office about our complaints. Poor guy he is trying. We moved into a so called “tuck away.” It looked cozy at first, lots of space but it is not for the average hard working “American.” If you are use to living in countries like Central African Republic or Somalia or Guinea-Bissau or Sierra Leone or the Congo or the Amazon, where hear stories of they way people live and use to seeing huge bugs and living in very poor conditions, then by all means step right in, you will fit right at home! Rent from this place and move into a tuck away like we did. I guarantee you there will be no rest for the weary. Even on the lower level apartment we’ve heard complaints about the bug and flood problem when it rains. It seems like every day we were killing a dam bug and some of them we never knew were made by God! Especially FRIGGIN spiders and oh let’s not forget a couple of rats we caught in a trap! Rats stew anyone? We had spiders crawling from the vents in the apartment, under the sink there was a big hole which my roommate called “the door to the underworld” for the FRIGGIN rats and who knows what else. We brought it to the attention of the leasing office and after months living in this hell of an apartment, they moved us into a townhouse. But guess what to add insult to injury, WE ARE STILL HAVING A BUG PROBLEM BECAUSE THE TOWNHOUSE THEY MOVED US TO IS BELOW A TUCKAWAY! My roommate and I are this close to calling the health department and after thinking about it we just might! So please do yourself a favor; do not move here! When our lease is up we are out of this place. Campus living is much better. Also there are a lot of vacant apartments at this complex ask yourself WHY so many vacancies! Take a look at cragslist.org, Van Meter at this location has a lot of vacant units! Like I said, at first when you or you and your family move in it’s nice but get unpacked and wait a few days and the rest of your family will move in; spiders, rats, centipedes and God knows what else if you give it time. Some guy sprays every Tuesday, I think but the spray must be mixed with something else because it does not get rid of the bugs, but rather is an invitation for more bugs. Another thing some of the staff is R-U-D-E especially Natasha. You can hear it in her raspy voice that she does not want to be bothered with you! Also there is a very high turnover. Can you tell I am pissed! Well hell yes and have good reason to be. We are paying so much for this place, we have never been late and this is what we get for our hard earned money. The utilities are high! Our Studebaker bill for last month was $265.00. If you do decide to move here make sure they are not combining your heat bill with someone else’s. My friend lives in a one bedroom and she said last month her bill was like $210 and she is hardly home. One more thing, there is dog crap every where. NASTY, NASTY, NASTY, NASTY, NASTY place. Also, don’t be fooled by the so called good ratings; one source in the office told me 80% of the good ratings are from the management. So in a nut shell living at Van Meter at Fairfax Square, 9860 Fairfax Square is Priceless! Not!
